How I Got My "Honey-Do" List Knocked Out With Task Rabbit
I've been having a list of things that I needed repaired, some things that needed upgraded and some things that I've always wanted for my home but it was above my skill set. Hiring a handyman can get quite costly and I don't have a "honey" to "do" the things on my "Honey Do" list for free so I came across the next best thing....Task Rabbit.
Task Rabbit is an app that I downloaded where you can hire a local handyman to do just about everything. All of the "taskers" go through a vigorous background check before they can get gigs with the app. They have to meet certain qualifications as well. Task Rabbit isn't limited to handyman services. If the task you need is computer help, personal shopping, maid services, etc. they have options for you too. When you open the app, they have different categories to chose from.
You select which category that suits your needs, tell them the things that you want done and then they pair you with a tasker near your address along with their price per hour.
The first time I used Task Rabbit, my list was for the "tasker" to (1) Mount my 42" television on the kitchen wall, (2) Mount my 55" television on the bedroom wall, (3) Hang curtain brackets closer to ceiling above four windows, (4) Replace loose threshold in master bedroom's door way, (5) Hang chandelier in master bedroom. I estimated that he could knock out my list in about 3 hours so that was for how long I booked him for.
After submitting my list, Task Rabbit assigned a tasker for me. They had his picture, name and hourly rate. My designated tasker was charging me $29.41 an hour (not bad at all). I also had a $10 off promo code from the person who referred me to the app (like it couldn't get any better). Less than an hour after booking my tasker, he DMed me through the app to confirm booking date, time and other details.
A few days later, he was here and I was very pleased with the work that the tasker did. He was great. He couldn't hang the chandelier (because some of the glass pieces were broken during shipping, so I had to contact Amazon for replacement parts) but he did manage to do everything else in about 2.5 hours.
When he hung my televisions on the wall, he couldn't hide the cords because I didn't buy the kit to hide the cords (I thought that all I needed were the wall brackets, so that was all I purchased). He told me what to get and that he'd come back to hide the cords once I get the kit. The televisions ended up looking like this as a result:
The taskers complete the tasks, given that you have everything they need to complete it. They only bring their tools, but as far as supplies, that's on you. What he could not do was not his fault. He gave me a $10 off code to use when I book him again, so in a little over a week, that was just what I did.
The second time he came out, I bought what he needed to hide the cords in the wall (I actually found a cheaper solution that ended up working, but I'll save that for another blog post) so he was able to hide the cords in the walls of the televisions.
I decided to let an electrician hang the chandelier at a later date because of the complexity of the situation. My tasker was fine with my decision, so he repaired misc. things in my house since I had him for another hour. He fixed my kitchen drawer. Also, my garage door stopped opening with the remote, so he troubleshot that, now it works. That alone saved me hundred to repair. Shoot, mounting a television by Best Buy's Geek Squad is at least $150 and that's the minimum without the option of hiding the cords in the wall. For just $29.41 an hour (and a $10 off coupon code used both times), this was a steal. I managed to get my home repairs done and I am a very happy camper.
When I need something else done, I will definitely go the the Task Rabbit app as my first option. I am a forever customer. Now, if you use my referral link that is right here: https://www.taskrabbit.com/s/5p7mc/try?utm_source=trycode , you too can get $10 off your first booking. If you end up using Task Rabbit, please let me know how your experience went.
