The Wall That Kicked My Ass!

Pink is supposed to be all innocent, cute and youthful.  It makes you think of cotton candy, bubble gum, and little girls that are made of sugar, spice, and everything nice but this innocent-looking pink wall was evil towards me!

When we were waiting to close on our place, my daughter and I were going back and forth with ideas on how she wanted me to decorate her room.  I suggested a "Victoria Secret" inspired room with blush (light pink) and bashful (fuchsia) stripes on the feature wall, you know, like a Victoria Secret's bag.  She loved the colors but said that she'd prefer a chevron wall instead of the stripes.  I thought "Yeah, that would be better" so I researched how to paint a chevron wall.  I came across a stencil on Amazon.  Despite the "three-star rating" and a few less than stellar reviews, I still purchased it.

When it arrived, it was flimsy, but I thought that I would be fine as long as I follow the directions.  It was JUST a stencil, and not every review on it was bad.

WRONG!

It was made with the cheapest quality plastic that a stencil could be made out of.  I sprayed adhesive on the back of it so that it could stick to the wall but it would not stick.  The painter's tape wouldn't even stick to it to hold it up.  I used the stencil the best I could but the dark pink kept bleeding through to the light pink, making the lines far from crisp, like this:

I had to use a few rolls of frog tape to line up the pattern, pulled back out the light pink paint, and drew in the parts that were bled on (and believe me, it was a lot).  I had to make the lines crisp though.  I could not leave it like that.

Well, it took me a few days to do this wall.  Thank God she only wanted one wall.  Actually, even if she wanted all four, she would have had to opt for only one wall because I was so over it.

If you are going to use wall stencils, spend a little more.  It will save you the aggravation and time (which is more valuable than money).  We do love the wall all in all.  I told her that she could never in life paint over it though.  If she gets tired of it, she'd have to hang curtains over it or something, but that Chevron is staying!
