Transformation Tuesday: That Time I Painted Over An Ugly Oil Painting

I knew that I wanted a huge art piece to match the color scheme of "my future living room". I was in the final stages of purchasing my condo, I decorated it in my head so many times, but my resources to deck it out like I wanted to were limited. When your resources are limited, you find hidden talents that you did not know that you had.

I did look at big wall art first but everything cost way more than what I was willing to pay. I then went to Michael’s to price large blank canvases and those were very expensive too; at least $100. I asked my dad if I could have his oil painting (not telling him that I planned to paint over it) and when he said that I could, I bought some $3 spackle, .67 bottles of acrylic paint, and other misc. supplies. I probably spent under $10 on this project. Sidebar- the reason why I don’t know the exact amount is because I be shopping and left Walmart with all kind of random stuff.

It took no time to paint this. I put on Frank Ocean’s "Channel Orange", went with the flow and I was very happy with the end result. If you want nice art but don’t want to spend a guap, create your own. You don’t even have to know how to draw, there are no rules to art. Put on some music that inspires you and just create! Wait...There is a rule to painting over an oil painting though! If you paint over an oil painting, the original image will show underneath, that it why I used spackle before I painted my image. The spackle did a beautiful job hiding the lines. Look around your house and see what you can paint. Before I go buy a new item, I buy paint first sometimes. I spray painted lamps, chairs, a brass table to gold, etc. You can fall back in love with things you already have just by painting it to fit your current style. Question of the day: What do you have that could be brought back to life with paint?
